Tampa Entropion Correction:
Looking for a Board-Certified Tampa eyelid surgeon?
Entropion refers to the condition when the lower eyelid rolls inward and lashes rub on the cornea (the front part of the eye). This condition can result in eye irritation, tearing, mucous discharge, eyelid crusting and impaired vision. Entropion can be caused by various mechanisms, with the most common occurring secondary to relaxation of the eyelid tissues from aging. Less common mechanisms include burns, scarring, inflammatory conditions or allergic reactions.
Dr. Mack performs outpatient surgery to correct entropion under local anesthesia. The goal of this surgery focuses on positioning the lower eyelid into the correct anatomic position. Without surgical intervention, the patient is at risk for corneal scarring, infection and even loss of vision. During the post-operative period, the patient will use an antibiotic ointment for 5 to 7 days, at which time the patient can return to normal activities.
