UPPER LID DERMATOCHALASIS/PTOSIS
Tampa Upper Eyelid Ptosis / Dermatochalasis:
Looking for a Tampa eyelid surgery specialist?
Dermatochalasis refers to excess upper eyelid skin which results in a "droopy" appearance. The superior vision is blocked as the droopy eyelid interferes with the pupil. Patients may notice that they are manually lifting their eyelids with their fingers or that they are tilting their head in order to see. The most common cause of Ptosis is secondary to aging, although congenital cases can occur.
Dr. Mack will examine the patient's eyelids to determine the type of surgical intervention to correct the Ptosis. This surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. During the post-operative period, the patient will use ice packs for the first 2 to 3 days and antibiotic ointment for the first week. At that point, the sutures are removed in the office and the patient can resume normal activities.
